What is BHRT?
Bioidentical (or body-identical) hormones, are identical in structure to the hormones produced in the human body and tend to be associated with fewer side effects. They are derived from plant sources and are given through the skin - transdermal.
What is the difference between BHRT and HRT?
Historically HRT has been provided using licenced preparations readily available on the NHS in set doses, containing either oestrogen alone or in combination with synthetic progesterone-like compounds called progestogens. However, progestogens are not identical in structure to the natural progesterone produced in the body and can cause side effects.
How much does BHRT cost?
Once treatment is established, BHRT costs approximately £1 - £3 a day. However, it will cost more during the first few months while we establish the correct dose of each hormone for you as an individual.
How long will it take to feel better?
You should start to feel better within six weeks of starting your hormones and supplements although it may be sooner. You should allow 3 months to feel the full effect of the recommended hormones, supplements and remedies.
Are there any side effects of BHRT?
Side effects depend upon which hormone you have been recommended. Often you will be recommended more than one hormone depending on which ones are deficient. Side effects vary between each individual and range from no side effects at all to ones such as bleeding/spotting, breast tenderness, bloating, headaches and acne. Any side effects should settle within few weeks and any remaining should be discussed at your next consultation.
What is the cancellation policy?
Any cancellation or changes to your appointment will require two working days’ notice and any cancellation with less notice will result in the full consultation fee being charged.
Working days are Monday to Friday between 9am to 5pm.
